My Gaming Journey (currently)

Back on My Colony Builder B.S. (And Also... Kirby's a Car Now?!)
Contains Spoilers (but the fun kind)

Hey Nerdz,
We’re diving into the gaming world today because your girl has fallen right back into her addiction — colony builders.

I don’t know why I love organizing digital societies when I literally do that in real life. Like, this is my career. My daily grind. And yet… here I am, voluntarily doing it for fun.

Someone explain the logic.
Actually—don’t. I’m too deep in already. 🫠

Timberborn – Beavers. Building. Bliss.

Let’s start light. I recently downloaded Timberborn. I haven’t played much yet because I’ve seen enough gameplay to know the gist:

  • Post-human world.

  • Beavers are the new builders.

  • They’re smarter than me.

It’s super popular for a reason. If you love the kind of game where water management becomes your full personality? This one’s for you. I’ll do a deeper dive later when I get fully into it.

Against The Storm – The Queen Is Watching... And Judging

Now THIS? This is the one. The one that’s got me by the digital soul.

Against the Storm has been in early access forever. So when it officially released, I was like “Yup. Mine.”
It’s a colony builder plus world-builder. A whole world map. Queen-given orders. And three (soon four!) different species to juggle and keep happy.

You’re basically acting as the Queen’s little colonization contractor — building settlements under her banner. But here’s the twist:

If she’s not happy?
Game. Over.

There's a bar that tracks her impatience, and trust me — she will snap if you slack. It's stressful, it’s beautiful, and it’s completely consuming. I've lost hours of my life to it already and have no regrets.
It’s giving:
πŸ“œ “Serve the Crown.”
πŸ˜… “Hope she doesn’t notice I’m behind on food.”
🎯 “Just one more expedition…”

Kirby: The Pink Puffball Goes 3D and Eats a Car

And now, for something completely different:
KIRBY. IS. A. CAR.

I downloaded Kirby and the Forgotten Land and I am giddy.

You think I’m joking?
No. This lil' puffball eats a whole-ass car and becomes it.
Tell me Kirby’s not on Mario’s level of overpowered at this point. I dare you.

It’s not just the transformation that excites me — it’s the fact that we’re finally getting a 3D Kirby experience that feels like an adventure, not just a side-scrolling platformer. It’s bright. It’s beautiful. It’s chaotic.
And I haven’t even fully played it yet beyond the demo! I’m holding out till I can binge it properly and lose hours to it just like my colony sims.

Final Thoughts: Games Got Me in a Chokehold (Again)

Whether I’m trying to please a royal overlord or turn into a sentient pink sedan, I’m just happy to be gaming again.

There’s a LOT out there — and while some games are duds, others hit deep in the brainstem and say, “Yeah, you live here now.”

So if you need me, I’ll either be feeding beavers, praying to the Queen, or racing around in Kirby-form.

Buddy Daddy feels

Buddy Daddies – Assassins, Adorability, and Unexpected Parenthood
Contains Spoilers – Only from the first couple episodes!

Hey there, Nerdz!
Okay, let’s talk about something super cute — and maybe a little dangerous. πŸ‘€

There’s a new anime on the block called Buddy Daddies and I am already obsessed.
From the trailer alone I was intrigued, but after watching the first couple of episodes? Yeah, I’m in. 100%.

Assassins... With a Soft Side?

So here’s the setup: two professional assassins — total opposites — end up accidentally taking in an adorable little girl.

Yes. You read that right.
Two hitmen. One preschooler. And it’s every bit as chaotic and heartwarming as it sounds.

One of them is the wild one — super outgoing, flirty, a bit of a gambler, and clearly used to a flashy, messy lifestyle.
The other is the introvert — quiet, grumpy, would absolutely live on his couch forever if nobody stopped him.

And now they’re co-parenting a tiny human.
Chaos is imminent. And I love it.

Why I’m Already Hooked

The premise alone is adorable, but what really sold me was the dynamic.
You can already tell this little girl is going to completely change their lives.

  • She’s full of curiosity, energy, and innocence

  • They’re both broken in their own ways

  • Together? They might just become a family

It’s giving Spy x Family vibes but with more grounded, adult energy. Like “yes, I kill people for a living… but I also make lunch for my daughter now.”

I can’t wait to watch these two guys — who clearly weren’t ready to be dads — grow into the role because of one tiny girl who just wants love, safety, and someone to read her bedtime stories. πŸ₯Ή

Final Thoughts: This Is Gonna Be a Good One

It’s early days, but Buddy Daddies has all the ingredients for something special:

  • Found family tropes

  • Comedy with real emotional depth

  • Messy men becoming better humans

And honestly? I’m so ready to see how this story unfolds.
Bring on the tears, the growth, and the giggles.

The Come back with the High Card

High Card – The Series That Might Actually Make “Card Anime” Cool Again
Contains Spoilers

Well hello there, fellow nerds.
It’s been a minute, hasn’t it?

Life really flipped on me these past few months. I’m in the middle of getting promoted (which is wild), planning a wedding with my amazing fiancΓ© (we’re almost a year out now, can you believe it?!), and I’ve taken on a huge new role at work. It's been... a lot.

So if you're still here — thank you for sticking with me.
And if you’re new? Welcome! We rebuild and rise again. Always.

Let’s Talk Anime. Because Oh My God… So Much Has Dropped

I come from the anime era of late-night Toonami, fan sub sites, and long searches for quality shows. Back then, when you found a good one, it meant something.

Now? There’s an avalanche of anime, and while that sounds like a dream, it’s actually kind of exhausting.

How many isekai are we gonna scroll through before we find something that actually stands out? Like seriously. I’m tired. 😩

Surprise Hit: High Card

So imagine my shock when High Card — a card-based anime, of all things — actually grabbed me.

Normally, anything with the word “card” in the title gets a hard pass from me. Yu-Gi-Oh, Buddyfight, that era was fun but I’m over it. I thought I’d moved on.

But High Card?
It’s different. And I mean that in the best way.

What’s It About?

You’re following this main character who’s down on his luck. Oldest kid in the orphanage. Hustling to keep it from being shut down (because apparently closing orphanages is an anime staple and a real-world reality 😀).

He’s slick, quick, and uses thievery to survive. But he’s not some evil anti-hero — he’s trying to do good with what he’s got. And honestly? That’s already a win for me.

Now here’s the twist:
There are actual playing cards — like spades, hearts, diamonds — that grant powers when activated with a special phrase.

They haven’t revealed everything yet (I’m only one episode in), but I love that.
I’m not being info-dumped — I’m being invited to keep watching. To discover with the characters. And you already know I’m curious about the Ace of Spades. πŸ‘€

Why It Works

  • The animation? Crisp.

  • The pacing? Sharp.

  • The energy? High.

  • The concept? Familiar, but twisted just enough to feel fresh.

It’s got action, a bit of mystery, and just the right amount of style to pull me in. I’m already invested in this main character, and I can’t wait to see what this world of “cards with power” evolves into.

Final Thoughts: I’m In. Let’s See Where This Goes.

High Card might just be one of those shows that sneaks up on you — and I’m not mad about it.

If you’re like me and you’ve been feeling anime fatigue, especially with all the same-y stories coming out lately, give this one a shot. It’s got potential, it’s got flair, and it might just surprise you.
